Since+relative+phenomena+arise+in+dependence+on+causes+and+conditions%2C+they+cannot+be+said+to+exist+based+solely+on+their+own+defining+characteristics.+Thus+they+are+deemed+to+be+empty+of+an+innate+nature.+As+a+noun%2C+this+term+generally+refers+to+the+more+traditional%2C+or+orthodox%2C+philosophical+stance+of+the+Madhyamaka+school+and+its+view+of+emptiness%2C+as+opposed+to+those+who+profess+other-emptiness+%28%27%27gzhan+stong%27%27%29.+For+the+latter+group%2C+self-emptiness+is+also+asserted+to+be+true%2C+but+it+is+only+used+to+describe+the+relative+truth.+However%2C+for+traditional+M%C4%81dhyamikas%2C+emptiness+is+universally+applied%2C+and+thus+the+lack+of+inherent+existence+is+itself+the+ultimate+truth. +
