He belonged to the Achak Dru (a lcags 'gru, or just lcags 'gru) lineage of the Nub clan (gnubs) of the Chakong (lcags khung) tribe and was said to be a reincarnation of Nuden Dorje (nus ldan rdo rje, b.1655), and the Imperial era figure Khyeuchung Lotsāwa (khye'u chung lo tsA ba). |
Throughout his life Dudjom Lingpa reported having direct visionary encounters with numerous deities such as Vajravārahī, Avalokiteśvara, Vajrapāṇi, and Mañjuśrī, Saraha and Longchenpa Drime Oser (klong chen pa 'dri med 'od zer, 1308-1364) through which he received teachings and empowerments. Also via visionary experience Dudjom Lingpa claimed to have journeyed to the pure land of the Copper-Colored Mountain and receive teachings directly from Padmasambhava.
