He encountered the Seventh Karmapa again when he was a young man and received a wide range of instructions from him, which he was said to have thoroughly mastered and experienced numerous visions of buddhas while in extended retreat. He went on to become a prominent teacher of the Kagyu tradition, especially at Zurmang Monastery. His students included some of the most important Kagyu hierarchs of the day, including the Eighth Karmapa and the Third Goshir Gyaltsab.
