Professor of Buddhist Studies at Komazawa University. A specialist on early Hua-yen Buddhism, his many publications include Kegon-Zen, a monumental study of the Chinese Hua-yen and Ch'an figure Tsung-mi, and a series of articles on Fa-tsang, which he is now expanding into a book.
