Gary Snyder is a poet and friend of the wilderness, who lives on San Juan Ridge in the Sierra foothills, in the Yuba watershed of California. He has published sixteen books of poetry and prose, and received the Pulitzer Prize for poetry for Turtle Island, in 1974. One of the founding members of the Buddhist Peace Fellowship, he has served on its Advisory Board for many years.
