In answer to my fervent prayers, Tulku Thondup Rinpoche gave endlessly of his time and unfathomable knowledge, answering countless questions and clarifying difficult points throughout the manuscript, as well as generously composing a foreword for the book. Words cannot express my gratitude for his scholarship and support. Also in answer to my prayers, translator and Tibetologist Dr. Gyurme Dorje edited the entire manuscript line by line against two editions of the Tibetan original, vastly improving the accuracy of the translation. He systematized terminology, standardized hundreds of text titles, identified countless personal and place names, corrected and added hundreds of endnotes, and prepared a colossal bibliography of works cited by the author. I am deeply grateful for his tremendous efforts.
Cortland Dahl, president of Tergar International, was a source of constant encouragement, and he secured funding for the project from an anonymous benefactor, enabling me to dedicate myself fully to the project.
