Biographical Information

Khyungtrul Pema Wangchen Tendzin Trinley (1870-?) was born in the khyung po area of eastern Tibet, met Dza Patrul Rinpoche, Orgyen Jigme Chokyi Wangpo (dpal sprul o rgyan 'jigs med chos kyi dbang po, 1808-1887), and his main teachers were Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo ('jam dbyangs mkhyen brtse'i dbang po, 1820-1892) and Jamgon Kongtrul Lodro Thaye ('jam mgon kong sprul blo gros mtha' yas, 1813-1899). He later became an influential teacher in central Tibet where he gave the transmission of the rin chen gter mdzod chen mo and other major rnying ma teachings. There seems to be some issues with the dates for this figure. The current Khyungtrul, enthroned first by Dilgo Khyentse and then later by Penor Rinpoche, lives in Washington D.C. and is the son of the late Lama Ralo. So either there was a long gap between tulkus or the previous incarnation, pictured on this page, lived sometime in the early three quarters of the 20th century. Otherwise, it is likely that there are two different figures being conflated here. See Note 2 on this page.
