| bio | The Rev. Dr. Peter Slater (b. March 24, 1934, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, England) is Professor Emeritus and Dean Emeritus of Divinity at Trinity College in the Toronto School of Theology, University of Toronto. Born in England, he was raised in Burma, Australia, and Canada, and holds degrees in philosophy and theology from McGill, Cambridge, and Harvard. He is an ordained Anglican priest who taught at Haverford College, Sir George Williams University (Montreal), Carleton University (Ottawa), and Wycliffe College before joining Trinity College in 1985, where he served as Dean from 1985 to 1990. He has served as regional president of the American Academy of Religion and as president of the Canadian Society for the Study of Religion. His publications include Religion and Culture in Canada (1978) and the coedited volume Traditions in Contact and Change (2006). He is the son of Robert Lawson Slater, the founding director of Harvard's Center for the Study of World Religions. |
