bio Annabella Pitkin is associate professor of Buddhism/East Asian religions and director of the Asian Studies Program at Lehigh University. Pitkin’s wide-ranging research spans classical and contemporary Tibetan Buddhism, East Asian religion and pop culture, and Buddhist social and ecological movements. Her research focuses on Tibetan Buddhist modernity, Buddhist ideals of renunciation, miracle narratives, and Buddhist biographies. She is on the editorial committee of the online database Treasury of Lives: A Biographical Encyclopedia of Tibet, Inner Asia, and the Himalaya.
