Pieter Cornelis Verhagen was born in Amsterdam in September 1957. He studied Indic and Iranian languages and cultures, with Sanskrit, Tibetan and general linguistic at University of Amsterdam. He earned PhD at Leiden University in 1991. He is currently a Leiden University lecturer for the language and culture of Tibet. Source
