Yoshito S. Hakeda, Associate Professor of Japanese in the Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures and Associate Professor in the Department of Religion at Columbia University, is the translator of The Awakening of Faith, attributed to Aśvaghosha (1967), and one of the collaborators assisting Wm. Theodore de Bary in preparing Buddhist Tradition in India, China, and Japan (1969).
