bio | Evan Thompson is Professor of Philosophy at the University of British Columbia and an Associate Member of the Department of Psychology and the Department of Asian Studies. He studies the mind, life, consciousness, and the self, from the perspectives of cognitive science, philosophy of mind, phenomenology, and cross-cultural philosophy (especially Buddhism and other Indian philosophical traditions). He co-authored The Embodied Mind (1991) with Francisco Varela and Eleanor Rosch; his recent books include Why I Am Not a Buddhist (2020) and Waking, Dreaming, Being: Self and Consciousness in Neuroscience, Meditation, and Philosophy (2015). |
