Biographical Information
Stephen R. Bokenkamp is an assistant professor in the Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures at Indiana University. He received his doctorate in Classical Chinese from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1986. Since 1983 he has written a number of articles on Tao ism and, in particular, the Ling-pao scriptures. He is currently completing a book, entitled The Celestial Masters, on the origins of the Taoist church in the second century C.E
