She specializes in Indian and Indo-Tibetan Buddhism, with particular focus on the psychological concepts of the Yogācāra tradition. She is the author of a monograph on the Yogācāra concept of the “five categories” (vastu) and numerous publications on the Pañcaskandhakavibhāṣā, a 6th-century commentary by the Indian scholar Sthiramati. Before joining the University of Leipzig, Jowita Kramer has held positions at the Universities of Heidel­berg and Munich, the University of Oxford, the University of California, Berkeley, and at the École Pratique des Hautes Études in Paris.
