According to BDRC, he studied under Ācārya Chos kyi 'byung gnas and had at least two known students, Paṇchen Vi khyA ta de va and Ācārya Śākya 'od. He is best known as the author of the ''Prasphuṭapadā'' ("A Clarification of the Words," Tib. ''Tshig rab tu gsal ba''), an influential commentary on Maitreya's ''Abhisamayālaṃkāra'' that numbers among the traditional set of Indian commentaries on that root text studied in Tibetan monastic curricula. He also composed the ''Vinayasūtraṭīkā'' (''<i>'</i>Dul ba'i mdo'i rgya cher 'grel pa''), an extensive commentary on Guṇaprabha's ''Vinayasūtra''. Both works were translated into Tibetan and are preserved in the Tengyur across multiple editions.
