Dorji Wangchuk wurde 1967 in Ostbhutan geboren. Nach seiner zehnjährigen
Ausbildung (1987–1997) in der tibetischen Klosteruniversität Ngagyur Nyingma
Institute in Bylakuppe, Mysore, Südindien, studierte er klassische Indologie und
Tibetologie mit Schwerpunkt Buddhismus an der Universität Hamburg, wo er 2002
seinen Magisterabschluss erlangte und anschließend promovierte (2005).
Gegenwärtig ist er Professor für Tibetologie in der Abteilung für Sprache und Kultur
Indiens und Tibets, am Asien-Afrika-Institut, Universität Hamburg. Sein spezielles
Interessengebiet liegt in der Geistesgeschichte des tibetischen Buddhismus und in der
tibetischen buddhistischen Literatur.
