bio	Charles Manson lived at Samyeling in the UK and studied and practiced Buddhism extensively there, later traveling in Tibet and studying the second Karmapa, Karma Pakshi in particular. He received his BA degree from SOAS, and MTS degree from Harvard Divinity School (Tibetan Buddhism). In addition to teaching at SOAS, he is currently Tibetan Subject Librarian for the Bodleian Library, Oxford. He maintains Bod Blog (yeshiuk.blogspot.com), a blog relating to the Tibetan Collection at the Bodleian. The Kagyu school traces its origin to the eleventh-century translator Marpa, who studied in India with Nāropa. Marpa's student Milarepa trained Gampopa, who founded the first monastery of the Kagyu order. As many as twelve subtraditions grew out from there, the best known being the Karma Kagyu, the Drikung, and the Drukpa.
