*'''From [[Wondrous_Dance_of_Illusion/Introduction|Wondrous Dance of Illusion]] pp XXIV-XXV'''
I (Heidi) would like to thank Kyabje Tulku Sonam Chöpel, student of
Orgyen Chemchok Rinpoche (a close disciple of Khenpo Ngakchung),
for granting me the reading transmission; Khenpo Sangye of Gyarong for
countless hours of explanations at the outset of the translation; Lhagang
Khenpo Tashi of Minyak for his patient guidance throughout the first
draft; Lama Tsering Gyaltsen of Corvallis for his constant encouragement
and clarifications; Tulku Tubzang of Palyul for advice and explanations of
cryptic passages; Gyarong Khenpo Lhabum for help with local dialects;
Lobpon Jigme Tutop Namgyal for answering many questions and for clarifying
the restriction on the text; Jules Levinson and Douglas Duckworth
for invaluable help on the Madhyamaka sections; Joseph Bailey and Joseph
Wagner for encouragement and monetary donations to the project; Joshua
Hayes and Victor Miller for helpful feedback on the introduction; and my
dear vajra sister Sarah Jacoby for constant moral support and excellent,
detailed feedback on the entire manuscript.
In answer to my fervent prayers, Tulku Thondup Rinpoche gave endlessly
of his time and unfathomable knowledge, answering countless questions
and clarifying difficult points throughout the manuscript, as well as
generously composing a foreword for the book. Words cannot express my
gratitude for his scholarship and support. Also in answer to my prayers,
translator and Tibetologist Dr. Gyurme Dorje edited the entire manuscript
line by line against two editions of the Tibetan original, vastly improving
the accuracy of the translation. He systematized terminology, standardized
hundreds of text titles, identified countless personal and place names, corrected
and added hundreds of endnotes, and prepared a colossal bibliography
of works cited by the author. I am deeply grateful for his tremendous
efforts.
Cortland Dahl, president of Tergar International, was a source of constant
encouragement, and he secured funding for the project from an
anonymous benefactor, enabling me to dedicate myself fully to the project.
For this, as well as two special grants generously awarded by the Khyentse
Foundation, I am inexpressibly grateful. I would also like to thank my
cotranslator, Jakob Leschly, who has been an exemplary vajra brother and a
source of inestimable knowledge, insight, support, and laughter. Without
him, I never would have had the courage to keep going with this project.
I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to my parents, Kirk and
Susan Nevin, and my sister, Liv Gifford, for their constant love and support.
Most of all, I wish to thank my selfless husband and vajra brother, Gyarong
Tsultrim Yampel, who married me shortly after I began this translation and
saw it through to the end, keeping bread on the table year after year, helping
me with countless passages, and cracking the whip of diligence over my lazy
back. This book couldn’t have happened without him. And a warm thank
you to our sweet children, Clara and Tashi, whose births and early years
were interwoven with this project.
