bio Hironori Tanaka is a graduate student in Buddhist Studies at Bukkyo University in Kyoto, Japan, specializing in Abhidharma philosophy and Sanskrit textual studies. He is an active member of the Abhidharmasamuccaya Study Group, a major collaborative research initiative led by Yoshihiko Nasu that brings together scholars from multiple Japanese universities and international institutions to produce annotated Japanese translations of Asaṅga's foundational Yogācāra text, the Abhidharmasamuccaya, and its commentaries. Tanaka's research employs comparative manuscript analysis, working across Sanskrit, Tibetan, and Chinese versions of Buddhist texts to produce accurate scholarly translations. His published work includes "Two Versions in Saundarananda 16.30–34" (2019), which appeared in the Journal of Indian and Buddhist Studies, where he examined manuscript variants between Nepalese and Central Asian versions of the Saundarananda and argued that the Central Asian manuscript may preserve the original form while the Nepalese version was redacted to align with Sarvāstivāda doctrine. His work contributes to the broader field of Buddhist textual scholarship and philological research.
