bio	Julio Natanael Reuter (M.A. 1886, Lic. Phil. 1891, Ph.D. 1897) was a Finnish Indologist and specialist in Sanskrit and comparative Indo-European linguistics at the University of Helsinki, where he studied under Otto Donner and later trained at Jena (under Delbrück) and Berlin (under Weber), with several research trips to London to study Sanskrit manuscripts. He succeeded Donner as Professor of Sanskrit and Comparative Indo-European Linguistics in 1906, holding the position until his retirement in 1931 (he continued as an examiner until his death). Though not a prolific publisher, Reuter was a wide-ranging scholar whose interests moved over his career from Sanskrit grammar to Vedic ritual, Pāli, and eventually Khotanese Saka and Tocharian—the linguistic breadth reflected in his 1913/1916 edition of the Mannerheim fragments, which required expertise in both Sanskrit and Khotanese.
