| bio | Pṛthivībandhu (Tib. Sa'i rtsa lag) is the attributed author of a Tibetan-translated commentary on the Saddharmapuṇḍarīkasūtra, titled the Saddharmapuṇḍarīkaṭīkā or per AIBS the Saddharmapuṇḍarīkavṛtti (RKTST 3356; Toh 4017). The colophon identifies Pṛthivībandhu as an ācārya "of the land of Siṃhala" (Śrī Laṅka). Almost nothing beyond this single colophon attests to his existence: no independent biographical tradition survives, and the historicity of the attribution itself is contested in modern scholarship. |
