bio	Winston Kyan is Assistant Professor of Art History at the University of Utah. He received his B.A. in comparative literature from Brown University and his M.A. and Ph.D. in art history from the University of Chicago (2006). His current manuscript project focuses on the intersection of image, text, and bodily practices in medieval Chinese Buddhist art (third to tenth centuries) within the context of religious exchange and material trade along the Silk Road. Dr. Kyan’s interest in the relationship between visual culture, human migration, and cultural interaction also extends to the modern and contemporary periods, and he has written essays and interviews on Chinatowns as sites of transnational visual culture and on contemporary art of the Asian diaspora. His most recent article, "Family Space: Buddhist Materiality and Ancestral Fashioning in Mogao Cave 231," appeared in The Art Bulletin (March/June 2010). (Sasson, Little Buddhas, xiii)
