| bio | Bsod nams rgya mtsho was a bka' brgyud master, scholar, and translator. He was born into the lineage of ngan lam rgyal ba mchog dbyangs as the son of rig 'dzin bsod nams 'od zer and the lady dpal ldan 'dzom. He received his first vows from brag nag pa mgon rgyal ba and the name bsod nams rgya mtsho'i sde. He received his rab byung vows from dwags po bkra shis rnam rgyal and received the byams chos sde lnga, dbu rigs tshogs drug, dbu ma la 'jug pa, spyod 'jug, dbu ma bzhi brgya pa, and the mngon pa gong 'og from dpal 'byor rgya mtsho. Bsod nams rgya mtsho studied the art of translation with 'gos lo tsA ba. He met and received teachings from Vanaratna and asked many questions regarding the Kalacakra. He received teachings on the practice of the phyag chen and nA ro chos drug from the zhwa dmar. He traveled to Nepal with paN chen rin po che, [and] presumably Vanaratna.
