| bio | Jagaddalanivāsin (Tib. Dza gat+ta tA lar gnas pa) was a twelfth-century Indian Buddhist paṇḍita, credited as the author of the Bhagavatyāmnāyānusāriṇīnāmavyākhyā (Tib. Bcom ldan 'das ma'i man ngag gi rjes su 'brang ba zhes bya ba'i rnam par bshad pa), a detailed commentary on the Aṣṭasāhasrikāprajñāpāramitāsūtra, translated into Tibetan by the paṇḍita Alaṅkadeva together with the translator Tengpa Lotsāwa Tsultrim Jungne, and preserved in the Derge Tengyur (D3811). His name—literally "the one dwelling at Jagaddala"—identifies him as a resident scholar of Jagaddala Mahāvihāra, a major Buddhist monastery and center of learning in Varendra (present-day north Bengal, Bangladesh). Jagaddala was founded toward the end of the Pāla dynasty, most likely by King Rāmapāla (c. 1077–1120), and was counted among the "five great monasteries" (pañca mahāvihāra) of Pāla-era Buddhist India, alongside Vikramaśīla, Nālandā, Somapura, and Odantapurī.
