|bio=Lopen (Dr) Karma Phuntsho is one of Bhutan’s leading intellectuals. He finished his monastic training in Bhutan and India before he pursued a M.St in Classical Indian Religions and a D.Phil in Oriental Studies at Balliol College, Oxford. He was a researcher at CNRS, Paris, a Research Associate in the Department of Social Anthropology at Cambridge University, and the Spalding Fellow for Comparative Religion at Clare Hall, Cambridge University. He was also a Research Consultant at University of Virginia.

An author of over one hundred books and articles including the authoritative ''History of Bhutan'' and ''Mipham’s Dialectics and the Debates on Emptiness'', he speaks and writes extensively on Bhutan and Buddhism. His work has received extensive media coverage by the BBC, BBS, Kuensel, The Bhutanese, Science, Radio Free Asia, Oxford Today, Times of India, India Today, and Channel News Asia. He is also the President and founder of Loden Foundation, a leading educational, entrepreneurial, and cultural initiative in Bhutan. He is currently based in Thimphu, Bhutan.

|bio=Yutok Yonten Gonpo the Younger was the twelfth-century Tibetan physician and tantric adept known as the "Father of Tibetan medicine." Tradition holds he was born in Goshi Retang (སྒོ་བཞི་རི་ཐང་), Upper Nyang (ཉང་སྟོད་), Tsang, to Kyongpo Dorje (ཁྱོང་པོ་རྡོ་རྗེ་) and Pema Woden (པདམ་འོད་ལྡན་), and later kept his residence at Shang Pelkye (ཤང་དཔལ་སྐྱེས་). He belonged to a hereditary lineage of physicians said to descend from Yutok Yonten Gonpo the Elder (གཡུ་ཐོག་རྙིང་མ་ཡོན་ཏན་མགོན་པོ་, 708–833), royal physician to Tri Songdetsen—though the Elder's biography is now generally regarded by scholars as a later, largely legendary construction modeled on the life of the Younger, and the family's genealogy was itself elaborated to trace back to the Indian Utpala dynasty. |bio=Nedo Karma Chakme, also known as Raga Asé (Rāgāsya), was an influential Karma Kamtsang scholar-yogin of Tibet, recognized by many as the incarnation of the ninth Karmapa (but not selected). His teachers included the most famous masters of his time, both Nyingma and Kagyu. He was both the teacher and student of Tertön Mingyur Dorje‎.

Karma Chakme was born in 1609 in the Nyomtod region of Kham. He trained first in his father's Nyingma lineage before entering the Karma Kagyu world. He took novice and full ordination at Tsurpu Monastery in 1627, where he received the name by which he is known, and studied closely with the Tenth Karmapa Choying Dorje, the Sixth Zhamar Chokyi Wangchuk, and the Zurmang Trungpa. His life spanned the turbulent decades of the Mongol invasion and the fall of his Rinpung and Karma Kagyu patrons, and he spent his later years—including a thirteen-year retreat begun in 1645—in intensive practice and writing before his death in 1678.

His ''Aspirational Prayer for Sukhāvatī'' (the "Chakme Sukhāvatī Prayer") remains one of the most widely recited prayers among both lay and monastic Tibetans. His retreat manual ''Mountain Dharma: Advice on Retreat'' (''ri chos mtshams kyi zhal gdams'') became a classic practical guide for practitioners. Crucially, he served as scribe to the visionary Terton Mingyur Dorje, transcribing almost the entirety of the Namcho ("Sky Teaching") treasure cycle, later collected into thirteen volumes, and he is remembered for compositions synthesizing Mahāmudrā and Dzogchen.

His influence on later generations was profound and his students founded lineages that carried both currents of his inheritance: Tsondu Gyatso and Pema Kunga established the Upper and Lower Nedo Kagyu lineages, while his student Rigdzin Kunzang Sherab drew on the Nyingma side to found Pelyul (Palyul) Monastery, which became one of the six "mother monasteries" of the Nyingma tradition. His works were canonized in a sixty-volume Collected Works published by Nedo Monastery in 2010, and he was recognized through a line of seven subsequent reincarnations. Later masters relied heavily on him—historians Guru Tashi and the Eighth Situ Chokyi Jungne, and the great nineteenth-century polymath Jamgön Kongtrul, all wrote about him—and his reach extends into the modern West, where Khenpo Karthar Rinpoche taught Mountain Dharma at Karma Triyana Dharmachakra in Woodstock, New York, which became a series of books published at KTD: ''[https://www.ktdpublications.com/mountain-dharma-1/ Karma Chakme's Mountain Dharma]''. |bio=Nedo Karma Chakme, also known as Raga Asé (Rāgāsya), was an influential Karma Kamtsang scholar-yogin of Tibet, recognized by many as the incarnation of the ninth Karmapa (but not selected). His teachers included the most famous masters of his time, both Nyingma and Kagyu. He was both the teacher and student of Tertön Mingyur Dorje‎.

Karma Chakme was born in 1609 in the Nyomtod region of Kham. He trained first in his father's Nyingma lineage before entering the Karma Kagyu world. He took novice and full ordination at Tsurpu Monastery in 1627, where he received the name by which he is known, and studied closely with the Tenth Karmapa Choying Dorje, the Sixth Zhamar Chokyi Wangchuk, and the Zurmang Trungpa. His life spanned the turbulent decades of the Mongol invasion and the fall of his Rinpung and Karma Kagyu patrons, and he spent his later years—including a thirteen-year retreat begun in 1645—in intensive practice and writing before his death in 1678.

His ''Aspirational Prayer for Sukhāvatī'' (the "Chakme Sukhāvatī Prayer") remains one of the most widely recited prayers among both lay and monastic Tibetans. His retreat manual ''Mountain Dharma: Advice on Retreat'' (''ri chos mtshams kyi zhal gdams'') became a classic practical guide for practitioners. Crucially, he served as scribe to the visionary Terton Mingyur Dorje, transcribing almost the entirety of the Namcho ("Sky Teaching") treasure cycle, later collected into thirteen volumes, and he is remembered for compositions synthesizing Mahāmudrā and Dzogchen.

His influence on later generations was profound and his students founded lineages that carried both currents of his inheritance: Tsondu Gyatso and Pema Kunga established the Upper and Lower Nedo Kagyu lineages, while his student Rigdzin Kunzang Sherab drew on the Nyingma side to found Pelyul (Palyul) Monastery, which became one of the six "mother monasteries" of the Nyingma tradition. His works were canonized in a sixty-volume Collected Works published by Nedo Monastery in 2010, and he was recognized through a line of seven subsequent reincarnations. Later masters relied heavily on him—historians Guru Tashi and the Eighth Situ Chokyi Jungne, and the great nineteenth-century polymath Jamgön Kongtrul, all wrote about him—and his reach extends into the modern West, where Khenpo Karthar Rinpoche taught Mountain Dharma at Karma Triyana Dharmachakra in Woodstock, New York, which became a series of books published at KTD: ''[https://www.ktdpublications.com/mountain-dharma-1/ Karma Chakme's Mountain Dharma]''. |bio=Nedo Karma Chakme, also known as Raga Asé (Rāgāsya), was an influential Karma Kamtsang scholar-yogin of Tibet, recognized by many as the incarnation of the ninth Karmapa (but not selected). His teachers included the most famous masters of his time, both Nyingma and Kagyu. He was both the teacher and student of Tertön Mingyur Dorje‎.

Karma Chakme was born in 1609 in the Nyomtod region of Kham. He trained first in his father's Nyingma lineage before entering the Karma Kagyu world. He took novice and full ordination at Tsurpu Monastery in 1627, where he received the name by which he is known, and studied closely with the Tenth Karmapa Choying Dorje, the Sixth Zhamar Chokyi Wangchuk, and the Zurmang Trungpa. His life spanned the turbulent decades of the Mongol invasion and the fall of his Rinpung and Karma Kagyu patrons, and he spent his later years—including a thirteen-year retreat begun in 1645—in intensive practice and writing before his death in 1678.

His ''Aspirational Prayer for Sukhāvatī'' (the "Chakme Sukhāvatī Prayer") remains one of the most widely recited prayers among both lay and monastic Tibetans. His retreat manual ''Mountain Dharma: Advice on Retreat'' (''ri chos mtshams kyi zhal gdams'') became a classic practical guide for practitioners. Crucially, he served as scribe to the visionary Terton Mingyur Dorje, transcribing almost the entirety of the Namcho ("Sky Teaching") treasure cycle, later collected into thirteen volumes, and he is remembered for compositions synthesizing Mahāmudrā and Dzogchen.

His influence on later generations was profound and his students founded lineages that carried both currents of his inheritance: Tsondu Gyatso and Pema Kunga established the Upper and Lower Nedo Kagyu lineages, while his student Rigdzin Kunzang Sherab drew on the Nyingma side to found Pelyul (Palyul) Monastery, which became one of the six "mother monasteries" of the Nyingma tradition. His works were canonized in a sixty-volume Collected Works published by Nedo Monastery in 2010, and he was recognized through a line of seven subsequent reincarnations. Later masters relied heavily on him—historians Guru Tashi and the Eighth Situ Chokyi Jungne, and the great nineteenth-century polymath Jamgön Kongtrul, all wrote about him—and his reach extends into the modern West, where Khenpo Karthar Rinpoche taught Mountain Dharma at Karma Triyana Dharmachakra in Woodstock, New York, which became a series of books published at KTD: ''[https://www.ktdpublications.com/mountain-dharma-1/ Karma Chakme's Mountain Dharma]''.

Before that, I was the Associate Chair of the Department for the Study of Religion (2010-2017). I am currently Director of the Buddhism, Psychology and Mental Health program at New College, University of Toronto.

In my research I’ve collaborated with students, scholars, and community experts to explore the intersections between tantric practice, ritual/occult knowledge, and medical history and theory in Tibet. I’ve also worked with Tibetan scholars and students in Amdo to study the Tibetan King Gesar epic, and most recently have been working with communities in Sikkim around Mt Khangchendzonga. In partnership with students, I’ve also published on experiential learning, outdoor education, and methods for student flourishing. Language instruction methodologies have also been a special interest of mine for over two decades. Although single-authored work is most common in my field, I prioritize co-authoring research publications with students or members of the community as often as possible.
