bio Sengchou 僧稠 (480-560), lived in monastery by the name of Xianjusi (Tranquil Dwelling Monastery), which

had once been the private villa of Emperor Xuanwudi (r. 499-515) of the Northern Wei dynasty. Seng Chou's meditation accomplishments were legendary and he had a profound influence on Chinese Buddhist history as a whole. He was a disciple of Buddhabhadra.
