Gareth Sparham was born in Britain and studied at the Institute of Buddhist Dialectics from 1974 to 1982. He earned his Ph.D. in 1989 from the University of British Columbia. He lecturered at the University of Michigan before coming to Berkeley. Source (Accessed Dec 5, 2013)
