|bio=Irmgard Mengele received her PhD from the University of Hamburg. Her translation of Sherab Gyatso’s biography of Gendun Chopel entitled ''dGe’-‘dun-chos-‘phel: A Biography of the 20th-Century Tibetan Scholar'' was published by Library of Tibetan Works and Archives in 1999. She is also the author of ''Riding a Huge Wave of Karma: The Turbulent Life of the Tenth KarmaPa'' (Vajra Publications 2012). She currently teaches at the University of California, Santa Barbara.
